Probably a breeding resident. Uncommon and localised, it occurs in wooded thickets with rank grass along drainage lines (recorded in 12% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs in pairs or small groups; it is easily mistaken for Purple Indigobird and perhaps some (or most?) of the records shown alongside are for that more widely-occurring species. Parasitises African Firefinch.
