Acrocephalus baeticatus African Reed Warbler Kleinrietsanger
Modimolle, Dec 2021
Probably a breeding resident. Widespread across the Waterberg, but sparse and localised, more so in the surrounding thorn savanna (83% in, 17% out; recorded in 16% of the Waterberg pentads); it is restricted to damp areas along drainage lines, frequenting reedbeds, sedges and rank vegetation (e.g. stands of Polygala); in pairs while breeding, mostly detected from hearing its lively warbling song.
