A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (63% in, 37% out; recorded in 86% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents both open and wooded country; single birds are mostly encountered, typically detected when disturbed and flushed from the ground where they have been foraging. Breeds in summer.
