A breeding resident. Scarce; occurs widely across the Waterberg, but localised, being largely restricted to the main rivers and their attendant dams; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (77% in, 23% out; recorded in 33% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly, or in pairs at breeding sites. Breeds in summer.
