Cecropis abyssinica Lesser Striped Swallow Kleinstreepswael
Jembisa Private Game Reserve, Okt 2022
A breeding summer visitor, present between Aug and Apr, with occasional individuals present year-round. Very common - the most widely and frequently recorded swallow in the Waterberg (recorded in 91% of the Waterberg pentads); in contrast to Greater Striped Swallow it occurs evenly across the region and is likely to be present wherever suitable nesting sites are available, these typically under road bridges and on man-made structures; in pairs, or family groups after breeding. Breeds in summer, nests often being usurped by White-rumped Swifts.
