Seemingly rare and localised with single plants currently known from a handful of sites in the Waterberg (Marakele, Bela Bela, Droogekloof), these growing in wooded ravines. Its occurrence elsewhere may have been overlooked as, in the past, this species has been reported to have occurred at other localities in high-lying areas but over-exploitation has led to their demise.
