Lonchura cucullata Bronze Mannikin Gewone Fret
Verloren, Bela Bela, Jan 2019
A breeding resident. Widespread and locally common across the higher-rainfall southern half of the Waterberg, scarce or absent in the north (69% in, 31% out; recorded in 38% of the Waterberg pentads); it favours well-wooded areas with rank grass; it is gregarious and mostly found in small flocks, in pairs while breeding. Breeds in summer; as in the case of the Blue Waxbill, its nest is often placed in a tree alongside an active wasp nest.
