male
A breeding resident. A grassland species that is locally common and widespread in the south and south-east where agriculture has extensively replaced woodland with croplands, pastures and secondary grassland; rare and localised elsewhere (recorded in 35% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs as single birds or in flocks, and is usually detected in flight overhead from hearing its squeaky contact call as birds commute between foraging areas and drinking sites. Breeds in late summer.
