Uraeginthus angolensis  Blue Waxbill  Gewone Blousysie
Blue Waxbill
Modimolle, Aug 2017
male

A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna: it is much the commonest estrildid in the region (48% in, 52% out; recorded in 92% of the Waterberg pentads); found singly, in pairs, or in small family groups, it occurs in most wooded habitats. Breeds in late summer; frequently builds its nest alongside an active wasp's nest, presumably doing this to take advantage of the wasps pugnacity towards potential predators.
