An erratic breeding summer visitor. Mostly restricted to agricultural areas, it occurs erratically and sparsely in the Waterberg, being commoner and more widespread along the Nyl floodplain and in the agricultural areas of the Springbok Flats to the south-east (26% in, 74% out recorded in 12% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents areas of rank grass and forbs, especially over water or damp ground; much attracted to seasonally flooded areas; gregarious, occurs in flocks. It is possibly resident but difficult to detect outside the breeding season. Breeds in summer.
