An erratic breeding visitor. An arid-savanna and open-country species, it occurs sparsely and erratically in the Waterberg, mostly around the outer fringes and in the surrounding thorn savanna (23% in, 77% out; recorded in 21% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly, in pairs, or in small flocks. Breeds in summer.
