A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (66% in, 34% out; recorded in 75% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents broad-leafed woodland; found singly, in pairs while breeding and at other times in loosely associated groups at concentrations of nectar-bearing plants; it appears that it moves about widely in response to changing availability of nectar sources. Breeds in summer.
