A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (65% in, 35% out; recorded in 92% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents densely wooded areas, often along drainage lines; a skulking species, its presence usually given away by its characteristic 'coffee-tea-or-me' whistle. Breeds in summer.
