A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Nov and Mar. Fairly common across the surrounding thorn savanna but scarce in the Waterberg (40% in, 60% out; recorded in 40% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open country, or areas with a sparse tree cover; occurs singly and typically to be found perched along road-side or farm fences watching for prey below.
