A breeding resident. Scarce. Occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (86% in, 14% out; recorded in 21% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open grassland, especially in cleared areas of past or present agriculture; found singly or in pairs. Breeds in summer.
