A breeding resident. An arid savanna species that occurs commonly in the surrounding thorn savannas, extending marginally into the fringes of the Waterberg and elsewhere where outliers of thornveld occur (31% in, 69% out; recorded in 52% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly, in pairs or in small family groups. Breeds in summer.
