A breeding resident. An arid savanna species that occurs commonly in the surrounding thorn savanna, extending marginally into the fringes of the Waterberg and elsewhere where outliers of thornveld occur (30% in, 70% out; recorded in 41% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents the shrubby under-storey of scattered trees in woodland or savanna; occurs singly or in pairs. Breeds in summer.
