A breeding resident. An arid savanna species that is rare and localised in the Waterberg and seemingly even less common that it was in the 1980s (recorded in 2% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open shrubby broad-leafed savanna, singly or in pairs, its presence in summer given away by the high-pitched tinkling song of the male. Breeds in summer.
