A breeding resident. Occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg; essentially absent from the surrounding thorn savanna (96% in, 4% out; recorded in 16% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents tall broad-leafed woodland, especially in areas where Faurea saligna occurs commonly; in pairs or small family groups year-round, frequenting the canopies of large trees; its presence, especially around sunrise, is often given away by its loud, churring song. Breeds in summer.
