A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Nov and Mar. Occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (66% in, 34% out; recorded in 10% of the Waterberg pentads); a skulking, solitary species, mostly detected from hearing, especially in late summer, its rambling warbling song that is interspersed with notes from the calls of other birds; frequents thickets; often along, but not restricted to drainage lines.
