Probably a breeding resident. A thornveld species that occurs commonly in the surrounding thorn savanna, extending marginally into the Waterberg around the fringes and where thornveld occurs on the plateau (65% out, 35% in; recorded in 50% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly or in pairs, its presence usually detected from its cheerful song.
