A breeding resident. Fairly common in the higher-lying, higher rainfall south-eastern side of the Waterberg; scarce and localised in the drier north (recorded in 50% of the Waterberg pentads); a grassland/vlei-edge species, it occurs mostly in past and present agricultural areas; found singly or in pairs while breeding. Breeds in early summer.
