A breeding resident. Common in the surrounding thorn savanna but scarce and localised in the Waterberg (30% in, 70% out; recorded in 32% of the Waterberg pentads); single birds mostly encountered, pairs while breeding; it nests on the top platform of some of the very high cell-phone masts in the area (e.g. at Tweefontein). Breeds in summer.
