Oriolus larvatus Black-headed Oriole Swartkopwielewaal
Kamonande, Mar 2021
A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (63% in, 37% out; recorded in 95% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs in any woodland but favours areas with tall trees; occurs singly or in pairs, sometimes in groups which are attracted to a prolifically-fruiting tree (e.g. a fig) or a flowering nectar-rich tree (e.g. Schotia); mostly detected by hearing its liquid call. Breeds in summer.
