A breeding resident. Very common and widespread, both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (52% in, 48% out; recorded in 100% of the Waterberg pentads); based on atlassing data it is the most frequently recorded bird in the Waterberg; it occurs wherever there are trees, indigenous or exotic; found singly or in territorial pairs, occasionally in larger aggregations such as during veld fires when all drongos within sight of the fire arrive to prey on the fleeing insects; a density of 7 pairs/100 ha recorded outside Modimolle. Breeds in early- to mid-summer; parasitised by the African Cuckoo.

This Drongo had caught and was eating a small bird which looks like a juvenile Bronze Mannikin. Very unusual for Drongos to prey on other birds.
