Riparia paludicola Brown-throated Martin Afrikaanse Oewerswael
Rankin's Pass, Feb 2019
A breeding resident. Fairly common but localised, occurring mostly in open country along the larger drainage lines; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna than in the Waterberg (in 75%, out 25%; recorded in 39% of the Waterberg pentads); gregarious, usually encountered in groups of 5-10 birds, sometimes found associating with other aerial foraging swallows; often close to water, especially where overhanging sandy banks provide sites for their nest tunnels. Breeds in winter.
