Cecropis cucullata Greater Striped Swallow Grootstreepswael
Witwater, Nov 2017
A breeding summer visitor, present between Sep and Apr. Fairly common in the southern half of the Waterberg, but progressively less so towards the north as the altitude decreases (recorded in 63% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs frequently alongside Lesser Striped Swallow; favours open landscapes, usually encountered in pairs, their occurrence mostly tied to availability of breeding sites (especially road bridges and buildings). Breeds in summer.
