A breeding summer visitor, present between Aug and Apr. Common and widespread in open landscapes across the Waterberg - the absence of records from the north-west lacks an obvious explanation (recorded in 72% of the Waterberg pentads); it occurs in pairs which, for much of the time, are tied to availability of breeding sites, these being cavities in large termitaria, holes in the ground or, more usually, road culverts. Breeds in early summer.
