A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Oct and Apr. It occurs commonly and widely, both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (recorded in 88% of the Waterberg pentads); gregarious, it occurs in small to very large flocks that move about widely in response to local rainfall events; favours open country for hawking insects; roosts communally at night in reedbeds, often in large numbers and their arrival at dusk at such sites can be a spectacular event.
