Mirafra africana Rufous-naped Lark Rooineklewerik
Moletadikgwa Wildlife Sanctuary, Feb 2020
A breeding resident. Common across much of the Waterberg and the most frequently recorded lark in the region (recorded in 79% of the Waterberg pentads). This species avoids rocky and densely wooded areas but otherwise occurs throughout from open grasslands to lightly wooded savanna. In summer its presence is usually detected from the melodious sound of the male singing from a termite mound or from the top of a shrub; in winter he is silent. Breeds in summer.
