A breeding resident. A mainly arid country species, it occurs commonly in the surrounding thorn savannas, less commonly in the Waterberg (39% in, 61% out; recorded in 52% of the Waterberg pentads); mostly found along the fringes of the Waterberg, it occurs in any woodland; avoids rocky, hilly areas. Breeds in summer.
