A breeding resident. A mainly arid country species, it occurs more commonly in the surrounding thorn savannas that in the Waterberg where it is scarce and mostly present along the western fringes (42% in, 58% out; recorded in 37% of the Waterberg pentads); favours open woodland; often encountered perched conspicuously on telephone- or high tension lines. Breeds in summer.
