A breeding summer visitor, present between Nov and Mar. Uncommon, occurring sparsely across the Waterberg; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (86% in, 14% out; recorded in 16% of the Waterberg pentads); found singly or in pairs in open broad-leafed woodland where aardvark holes or dongas provide nest sites. Breeds in summer.
