A breeding resident. Fairly common and present on all the larger dams and along the larger rivers in the Waterberg; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (69% in, 31% out; recorded in 60% of the Waterberg pentads); found singly, in pairs, or in family groups. Breeds in early summer.
