A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (58% in,42% out; recorded in 67% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open areas with rank grass and shrubbery, especially along drainage lines; in pairs year-round; usually detected by hearing its far-carrying bubbling call. Breeds in mid-summer.
