An erratic summer visitor. Rare, single birds or small groups recorded on dams at Alma, Dinaka Game Reserve and Vaalwater. This species very occasionally breeds in colonies on the Nyl floodplain and it has been seen in full breeding plumage near Alma (Jan 2019) but there is as yet no further evidence of it breeding in the Waterberg.
