Occurs widely but sparsely in open areas across the Waterberg, typically in old lands with short ground cover (recorded in 33% of the Waterberg pentads); in pairs or, after breeding, in family groups; its presence is often detected by hearing its fluted whistling call at dusk. Breeds in early summer.
