A resident. Rare, but probably widely overlooked given its very secretive nature (recorded in 4% of the Waterberg pentads). Frequents marshy seeps, such as at the headwaters of rivers or upstream of farm dams. Detected mostly by hearing its hooting call. Calling males are suggestive of breeding but no further evidence of this is yet available.
