Amaurornis flavirostra Black Crake Swartriethaan
Modimolle, Jan 2018
A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in surrounding thorn savanna (70% in, 30% out; recorded in 52% of the Waterberg pentads); restricted to dams and river margins that have fringing vegetation; occurs singly, in pairs, or in family groups after breeding; is conspicuous and vocal, hence more readily detectable than other crake species. Breeds in summer.
