Coturnix coturnix Common Quail Afrikaanse Kwartel
An erratic summer visitor. Rare; sparsely recorded in upland areas of open grassland (recorded in 6% of the Waterberg pentads); mostly detected from its characteristic call which is closely similar to the call of the Harlequin Quail and care is needed to distinguish the two; some (or all?) Waterberg records are perhaps attributable to that species.
