Kaupifalco monogrammicus Lizard Buzzard Akkedisvalk
Kamonande, Mar 2021
A breeding resident. Scarce. Occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg, much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (77% on, 23% off, recorded in 37% of the Waterberg pentads); breeds in broad-leafed woodland, but hunting birds may range into open country; single birds mostly encountered, often perched on roadside telephone poles or transmission lines, in pairs while breeding; more frequently recorded in winter (Apr to Aug) than summer (Sep to Mar, ratio of 6:17) suggesting that there is an influx of birds in winter. Breeds during early summer.
