A non-breeding visitor. Rare, with single birds or small groups appearing sporadically from time to time on dams (recorded in 4% of the Waterberg pentads). No evidence that it breeds in the Waterberg but in years of high rainfall many pairs breed on the nearby Nyl floodplain.
