Resident. Scarce. Single birds occur widely but sparsely on large and small water-bodies across the Waterberg (recorded in 21% of the Waterberg pentads); it is commoner and more widespread than Great Egret. Not known to breed in the Waterberg but in years of high rainfall it breeds nearby along the Nyl floodplain and this population perhaps brings birds into the area.
