Microcarbo africanus Reed Cormorant Rietduiker
Modimolle, Dec 2019
A breeding resident. Fairly common, it occurs widely and is likely to be found on any farm dam or on any of the larger rivers (recorded in 64% of the Waterberg pentads); usually single birds or small groups encountered but larger numbers gather to roost communally in places. Breeds erratically in the area, usually alongside Cattle Egrets and other communal breeders, typically in flooded trees and mostly in years of high rainfall.
